Yujeong Son was born in Pusan, South Korea, but
grew up in Oklahoma. She was an accomplished golfer as a girl. In
2012, at the age of 11, she won the US Kids World Championship.
She became the youngest champion of the Oklahoma State Women's Amateur,
winning it in back to back years 2014 and 2015. Inbee Park is her
biggest role model.
Son turned pro in 2019 and played a season on the
Symetra Tour. She finished 20th on the tour money list.
In 2019, she finished tied for 30th at 2019 Q-Series
to earn category 14 status on the LPGA in 2020.
In 2020, the whole world was rocked by the Covid-19
pandemic. The LPGA and KLPGA tours canceled and postponed many tournaments.
Son played six total LPGA events in 2020, with her best finish a
tie for 33rd. She also played one Major, the British Women's Open,
but missed the cut. She made just $11,000 for the year, 150th on
the money list. Fortunately for her, the LPGA decided that everyone
would maintain tour status through the end of 2021. However, Son
only earned a little more than $3,000 in 2021, making just one cut.
She also played on the Epson tour but didn't earn much there, either.
As a result, she lost all playing privileges.
She hasn't seemed to have played anywhere since
and might have retired.
