Capsule Bio

SooBin Kim was born in South Korea but grew up in British Columbia, Canada. She forged a strong junior golf career for herself in Canada before going to the University of Washington. There she became one of the top college players in the country. Among the records she set while at UW were the lowest scoring average in school history and the most wins in school history (four). In the Fall of 2014, as a senior, she rose to the #1 ranking among all female college golfers.

Kim attended LPGA Q-School in the Fall as an amateur and finished tied for 11th. She was helped immensely by her fourth round 65. She decided to turn pro and join the LPGA, foregoing her final half year of college in the process.

SooBin finished 103rd on the money list in her rookie season on the LPGA. She had one standout result, a tie for 13th at the Portland tournament, with a couple of other top 25s. She maintained conditional status for the 2016 season.

Soobin struggled in 2016, making only two cuts. Other than a great 63 in her very first round of the year at the Women's Australian Open, she had few highlights. As a result, she lost her LPGA tour card for 2017, finishing only 155th on the money list.

She decided in 2017 to try her luck in Korea. It immediately paid dividends: she won her first Dream Tour event. She retured part time to the KLPGA in 2021, but only made two cuts and was not able to maintain status. She returned again to the KLPGA in 2023, this time playing 19 events in the season. She made five cuts, her best finish a 25th. She earned 31 million won for the year, 108th on the money list. So she will need once again to earn her way onto tour if she is to play on the KLPGA in 2024.
