Song Yi Choi was born in Seoul, South Korea. She
was a four time member of the Korean National Team from 2002-2005.
She turned pro in 2007 and joined the Futures Tour.
In that season, she finished 14th on the money list. The following
year, she did much better. Indeed, she was in the top five on the
money list for much of the 2008 season, but slipped to 6th by the
end of the year. Fortunately, they changed the rules on tour, extending
LPGA membership to all golfers who finished in the top ten on the
money list (formerly, only those in the top five received cards).
She thus earned a category 17 status on tour for the 2009 LPGA season.
Song Yi only played a few events on tour in 2009
and didn't make the cut in any of them. She concentrated on the
Futures Tour, where she finished fifth on the money list for the
season to earn category 9 status on the LPGA for 2010. In 2010,
she again made no cuts, but maintained status thanks to a medical
exemption.
Once again, she missed the cut in all her LPGA tournaments
in 2011. She finally lost LPGA playing privileges, and does not
seem to have Symetra Tour membership, either. Presumably she has
retired.
