Hyun Jo Yoo was an important member of the Korean
national team when she was in high school. Perhaps her crowning
moment came at the 2023 Asian Games. The Koreans sent a team of
their top amateurs to represent them in women's golf, but many of
the other countries sent pros. China, for instance, sent three pros,
including world #2 Ruoning Yin. As good as the Korean amateurs were,
they were definitely facing a tough battle.
But the Koreans played great, winning a silver medal
for the team. Yoo scored a bronze medal in the individual contest,
shooting a 66-65 on the weekend. She was the only amateur who got
an individual medal. She beat Yin among others. She also was on
the victorious Queen Sirikit Cup team for Korea that year.
Yoo turned pro and qualified for the KLPGA as a
rookie in 2024. Although she didn't have a lot of great finishes
early on, she also made almost all the cuts, which allowed her to
take a strong lead in the Rookie of the Year race. She secured her
first win at the KB Star Championship, one of the tour's five Majors,
and not long after that, with weeks to go in the season, claimed
a dominating victory in the Rookie of the Year race.
In all, she earned 589 million won in 2024, 15th
on the money list. She had 9 top tens, including the win and a tie
for 4th. She missed just one cut all year.
Hyunjo started 2025 with an appearance at the Foxconn
TLPGA Players Championship in Taiwan. She finished tied for 13th
there; her week included a hole-in-one!
