Hwanhee Lee was born in Korea; she started playing
golf at age 11. She came to the US when she was young, and won two
AJGA events when she was a junior player. She played for four years
on her high school's boy's varsity team, then at UNLV in Las Vegas.
Lee suffered an injury when she was three that cost
her hearing in both ears. She must wear a hearing aid to hear anything
at all. But she has not let that stop her from becoming a golfer.
After graduating, Lee turned pro in late 2005 and
joined the Futures Tour. She played there for two years, making
two top tens in 2007. At Q-School that year, she managed to grab
one of the last conditional cards for the LPGA in 2008.
Hwanhee did play a few LPGA events in 2008, but
missed the cut in all of them. Thus, she lost all status on the
LPGA tour for 2009.
While Hwanhee works to get back to the big stage,
she has other projects to keep her busy. She designs '59' belt buckles
that are worn by several of the top ladies in golf. She also works
with autistic children in the off season.
In 2010, Hwanhee played on the Futures Tour, where
she struggled to a 146th place finish on the money list, losing
her Futures Tour card. It is unknown whether she is still playing
professional golf, although for a while she worked for a company
in Las Vegas that arranged golf outings between amateurs and professional
women golfers. Their website no longer works, so they might have
gone under.
