Road to the LPGA: She finished T-20th at 2004 Q-School
to earn an exempt card. |
Hana Kim is one of only two Korean-American
golfers on the LPGA tour; the other is Christina Kim. She
was an AJGA All American First Team selection as a junior
player in both 1999 and 2000. Hana was also an accomplished
college golfer, first for Northwestern University, and later
for UCLA.
Graduating in 2004, Hana played the Futures
Tour, where she didn't finish all that high. But she peaked
at Q-School later that year, ending up in 20th place and capturing
an exemption for the 2005 LPGA season in the process. Hana
has a younger sister, Ina, who is also an accomplished golfer,
but Ina !
Hana had a lackluster 2005 season, and was
forced to return to Q-School in 2005. Alas, she did not get
an exempt card again, and 2006 proved to be a challenge for
her. Although she had to again return to Q-School that year,
she did manage to secure her first ever top 20 finish in September.
Again in 2007, she was non-exempt, and earned a non-exempt
card at Q-School that year for 2008. But that year, she did
not make enough to remain on tour, and gained only limited
status for the 2009 season.
Hana played no events in 2009 or 2010, but
maintained low tour status for 2011. She played only two events
on the Futures Tour in 2011, missing both cuts, in the process
losing membership status on that tour.
I have been unable to find any other tournaments
she has played in since the start of 2012. She may have retired
from the game.
