Kathy Choi was the top player at UCLA in the late-90s.
She attempted to qualify for the LPGA at Q-School in 1998, but during
her round, suddenly found it very difficult to swing. She failed
to qualify, and in the months that followed, the pain got worse.
Eventually she was diagnosed with extreme rheumtoid arthritis, and
it seemed as though she would never play golf again.
For the next several years, she worked as a teaching
pro, but always had the hunger to try again to make a career as
a professional. She got married, and in 2002, started treatment
with a new drug that for the first time helped her feel better.
She began playing on the Futures Tour in 2003, and in 2004, she
managed to finish 55th at Q-School to earn a non-exempt card on
the LPGA tour. Her dream of playing pro golf in the big leagues
would come true at last!
Kathy tried hard in 2005, but was not able to make
a cut (or even complete many events). She did not play at all in
2006, and her current status is unknown.
