The Scoop:
Shi Hyun Ahn qualified for this tournament by virtue of her standing on the KLPGA tour. Few were expecting her to tie the course and tournament record in the first round, but that's exactly what she did, capturing a solid lead in the process. She held on to her lead during the second round, and found herself in a tense battle on Sunday with Laura Davies and Se Ri Pak, both of whom were playing in her group (Se Ri was the defending champion). Coming to the final hole, a par 5, Shi Hyun had only a one shot lead over Pak. But she hit two spectacular shots and drained the eagle putt to put her first LPGA win away. In the process, she gained a two year exemption on tour and became an overnight sensation in her homeland.
