Corning 2003: Notes from New York
Lowest score in LPGA history
Juli Inkster became the second consecutive American winner after shooting
a final round 62 at the Corning Classic. What is truly surprising is that
this breaks (not ties, breaks) the record for lowest score in LPGA history
shot by a tournament winner in the final round. What makes that relevant
to the Seoul Sisters is that this is a record apparently that Se Ri co-held
that we didn't even know about! You all remember at the Betsy King Classic
last year, Se Ri very nearly got double eagle on the final hole, then
had a 3 footer for a 62. Alas, she missed that one and finished with a
final round 63 to win. If she had only made that short putt, Se Ri would
have had the record Inkster now owns!

Top Ten for Seoul Sisters
The top ten mojo continues for the Koreans! This week, despite missing
their top three players on the money list (Hee-Won Han, Grace Park and
Se Ri Pak), the Korean players once again notched a top ten to keep their
perfect record of getting at least one in each event alive. This week
it was Soo Yun Kang (featured elsewhere in the Magazine!) who did the
trick. Good job!
Christina Kim
Congrats also go out to Christina Kim, who has at last snapped out of
her mini slump of the last few events. Christina was doing just peachy
until the final hole of the Chick-Fil-A, where she scored a quad bogey.
The next week, she missed her first cut of the year at Kingsmill, then
missed the cut at the Asahi Ryokuken as well. She made up for that this
week! She played consistently for three rounds (70, 68, 70), enabling
herself to sit at 21st place going into the final round. Then she caught
fire and shot a wonderful 66 to move up to 13th, her first solid performance
in a while. Christina also moved slightly on Lorena Ochoa in the Rookie
of the Year campaign. Let's hope it's a sign of things to come!
