Hyo Joon Jang came from South Korea when she was
15 to attend the International Junior Golf Academy in Florida. She
graduated in 2022 and played on the Epson Tour, where she managed
two runner-up finishes and five total top tens. She earned $78,611,
10th on the money list, and thus qualified for the LPGA in 2023
with a category 9 status.
Hyo Joon struggled with injuries in the summer of
her rookie year, but started to get healthier towards the end of
the season. It all came together for her at the Portland Classic
in September. In the third round, she shot an electrifying 62 that
included eleven (!!) birdies. This put her into contention going
into the final round. Alas, she was only able to shoot an even par
round on Sunday and finished tied for 10th, but it was still her
career best result and only top ten of the season.
By the end of the year, Jang had not been able to
make enough money to keep her full card and so went to Q Series.
Fortunately, she did well there, finishing tied for 7th to earn
full membership for 2024.
