Highlight and Lowlights

Impressive Debuts:
Seol-An Jeon, Aree Song and Shi Hyun Ahn, all three of them rookies, managed top tens in their first events as LPGA players. I suppose you could have expected it from Song, and Ahn did have a win under her belt already (though one would still expect some adjustment time to the American grasses), but Seol-An Jeon came as a complete surprise. She played well all week.

Surprising miscues:
The players who had the most problems this week were Soo Yun Kang and Young Kim, two top 40 players in 2003 who came in a bit rusty and missed the cut. Se Ri Pak also never got on rhythm this week, despite a 29 during her front nine on Saturday. Her lack of success on this course continues, although an 8th place is a lot better than a missed cut, which she got last year.

Comeback News:
Mi Hyun Kim looks like she is ready to make some noise again in 2004 after a middling 2003 season, with an 8th place finish in her first event. She is longer and stronger than ever, reportedly even carrying a 5 iron for the first time in her bag!

Taking it low? It must be the shoes!
Grace Park and Jung Yeon Lee both shot massively low rounds during this event. For Grace, her 61 marked her first ever score of 9 under par on any course. For Jung Yeon, her 60 lowered her career best mark by four shots. (PS 'it must be the shoes' was an old slogan for Nike, Grace's shoe sponsor!).
